Transfers FAQs

This topic contains a list of questions frequently asked by STORIS users about Transfer processing. If you click on a question, the answer appears. Please note that more than one solution may exist for a given situation. Read the answers completely to determine which method best suits your company's needs.

To perform an inventory transfer, use one of the following:

In Enter a Stock Adjustment, after you enter your product information, click on the Transfer tab to enter transfer information. If using this method, the system posts activity to inventory values immediately. This is a paper-less method.
In Enter a Transfer (Warehouse Transfer Creation), once you create the transfer, the option to print the transfer appears. Transfers can be acknowledged individually or by creating a Transfer Manifest and acknowledging the manifest. In either case, print a transfer ticket using either the Print all Delivery Tickets or the Print a Delivery/Pick-Up/Transfer Ticket process.

Next, access the transfer document and select the Complete Transfer option and click the Save button. Or, if using transfer manifests, you can use the Complete the Manifest Process (Transfer Manifest Completion). If using this method, the system does not post any activity to inventory values until the transfer is completed. This method creates a paper trail.

Use the Enter a Transfer (Warehouse Transfer Creation) process. At the Type field, select Floor Sample from the drop-down list.

This depends on which method you are using to transfer the product.

If you are using the Enter a Stock Adjustment (Inventory Adjustments) screen to transfer, click the Save button following entry of the Transfer Quantity and Receiving Location. A separate window displays. At the Serial/Reference Number field you can click on the Search button and use one of the selection/inquiry screens available to select a specific piece.
If you are completing a transfer either via the individual completion or the manifest completion, you can select the line item and update the location/reference number of the piece that is being transferred.

An auto transfer is a merchandise transfer that generates automatically when you enter a sales order with merchandise line items whose stocking location does not match the "deliver from" or "pick-up" location. The system automatically generates the transfer, but you must manually process and release the transfer for completion. (See also Inter-Regional Transfers).

The system indicates an Auto Transfer via the Transfer Type field on the Enter a Transfer (Transfer Entry) screen. "View" (Inquiry) screens indicate transfer orders with an order Type = TRN.

If the Auto Schedule Days field on the Inventory tab of your Point of Sale Control Settings contains a number of days, the system can generate auto transfers. If you leave this field blank, automatic transfers are not created.

The transfer date is determined by adding the Auto Schedule Days set in the Point of Sale Control Settings to today’s date, and then adding 1.

Transfer Date = Auto Schedule Days + Today’s Date + 1

The system also checks the Automatic Replenishment Days in the Warehouse/Store Location Settings. If the calculated transfer date falls on a day of the week not checked (available) in the Automatic Replenishment Days settings, the transfer is scheduled for the next available day.

For example, if the transfer is created on 4/6 and the Auto Schedule Days is set to 2, the transfer date is calculated as Thursday, 4/9. However, the Warehouse/Store Location Settings, Automatic Replenishment Days is set to permit auto stock transfer generation only on Tuesdays. Therefore, the transfer date is scheduled for the following Tuesday, 4/14.
