Physical Inventory FAQs

To perform a manual physical inventory, take the following steps. Note that some of these steps do not apply if using the Bar Code feature. See the Inventory FAQ's, Batch and RF Bar Code sections.

Before performing a full physical inventory, a STORIS technician should run the file utilities to check your products and warehouse data. This check ensures the integrity of your data and prevents errors from occurring during the freeze process. Contact STORIS for more information.Step 1. Prepare for the physical inventory.

Step 2. Complete transactions prior to the physical inventory.

Step 3. Freeze the inventory.

Step 4. Generate your count sheets.

Step 5. Count your inventory.

Step 6. Enter your physical counts into STORIS.

Step 7. Reconcile the inventory.

Step 8. Clear the inventory freeze.

Since outside companies who offer this type of service provide count data in differing formats, interfacing with outside counting software requires custom programming. Please contact STORIS Client Services for further information.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to do a physical inventory. (See the FAQ above about performing a physical inventory.) Once you freeze the inventory, immediately run the update with no pieces counted. This clears all inventory counts from the system and makes the necessary GL adjusting entries.

Note that when a piece is adjusted out of inventory, STORIS has an exact cost for the piece. When adding pieces into the system via a physical inventory process, since STORIS does not have an exact cost, STORIS adds pieces at either the replacement cost or the average cost, depending on your Costing Control Settings.
