How do I create labels in Label Matrix®?
The instructions below are a step-by-step outline for creating a very basic label template. For additional information on using Label Matrix® with STORIS, consult the following topics:
You can also create labels using the Forms
Designer.
Label Matrix provides comprehensive documentation of their program. STORIS strongly suggests you consult the introductory topics when first starting out. You can also use Label Matrix's Add New Image Wizard, which has step-by-step tips on adding all kinds of items to a label template. To access the Add New Image Wizard, open a label and click on the button in the upper-left corner of the screen, just above the “abc” button.
Open Label Matrix and, on the opening screen, leave the Read Only box empty.
Check to see if the template on which you want to base your new template appears in the Recently Used Templates box. If so, double-click on it to select it for editing. If not, click on Find an Existing Label and OK to search for the template. When you find it, select it for editing.
With the existing label template on the screen, rename it. Note that the system attempts to save the new template into the same folder as the old template. Assuming the new label is of the same type as the old template, accept this default.
You now have your new label template. Edit it any way you like. You can find tips on editing labels in the following section on Creating a New Labels, or in the topic called Creating Labels in Label Matrix.
Open Label Matrix and, on the opening screen, click on Create New File and then OK. The New Label Wizard appears.
On the New Label Wizard, leave all the boxes blank and click Next.
By leaving all the boxes blank on the New Label
Wizard, you elect to create a single label on an 8.5x11 inch template.
While editing the template, you can elect to divide the 8.5x11 inch
template into sections and thus print multiple copies of the label
per 8.5x11 template. You can also edit the size of the template using
the Page Setup option on the File menu.
Enter a description of the label into the Description box, if desired, and click Finish. Label Matrix appears displaying the template palette at 8.5” by 11”. The space shown on the screen does not include the space set aside for margins.
Click on the “abc” button on the upper-left corner of the screen. The Text Properties window appears.
In the Origin field, “Constant” should appear. If not, click on the Arrow and select it from the list that appears.
In the Text field, enter the name of a field you want to include on the label, for example, Product Name. To specify a font or font color, click on the appropriate tab. When finished, click on OK.
The field appears on the template in orange brackets. Your text appears inside the brackets. Click on the field and drag it to wherever you want it to appear on the screen.
Click on “abc” again. This time, at the Origin field, click on the arrow and select Database from the list that appears.
Next to the Origin field, click on Add. The Add Database Wizard screen appears.
Click on Normal Setup, then Next.
Click on File. The select Database File window appears. Select the database file type (extension .csv) the system uses for the type of label you are printing. You may have to navigate to the proper folder. The files are stored in separate subfolders of the following folder:
\Program Files\STORIS\Vision\labelMatrix\
The folders and files are named the following:
AccLabel (BCLBLSAL.CSV) – accessory labels
AccLabel (BCLBLNS.CSV) – accessory labels (as-is)
BrcdTags (BCLBLBC.CSV) – bar code tags (including as-is bar code tags)

HangTags (BCLBLNS.CSV) – hang tags (as-is)
Important! If creating labels or tags for
as-is A status of inventory. Most inventory is considered "regular" inventory. As-is inventory includes everything other than regular inventory, including floor samples, damaged and clearance items, etc. products, be sure read the section
called As-Is
Products in the Label Matrix Overview topic.
After you select a database file, you return to the Add Database Wizard where you can view all the data files found in the database file. Highlight the file you want and click on Next.
Click on Sequential Access and then click on Next.
You can give the database a name and a description, if desired. When finished, click on Finish. You return to the Text Properties screen with your data file selected in the box. Click OK to return to the template.
The sample name from the database file appears in orange brackets on the template. You can position this field anywhere on the template.
To add a bar code to your label, click on the Add Bar Code button, which appears below the ‘abc’ button. The Bar Code Properties window appears.
STORIS strongly suggests you consult with a support
representative before creating and printing labels with bar codes.
Many varieties of bar code exist, and your representative can help
you choose the proper bar code for your labels.
Click on the Bar Code tab.
Click on the arrow next to the Type field. A list of bar codes available to you appears. Click on the type you want, then click OK.
The bar code appears in orange brackets. To move the bar code, click on it, and while holding down the mouse button drag to where you want it to remain.
To add a picture to your label, click on Add Picture, which appears below the ‘abc’ button. The Picture Properties window appears.
Click on the Picture tab, then click on the File button to search for your picture.
When you locate your picture, click on OK to return to the template. Place the picture anywhere on the template.
Important! Make sure you save the template into the proper storage folder (that is accessories, bar codes, or hang tags). Otherwise, STORIS can not find the template when searching for it in the print label/tag routines.
