Inventory Costing FAQs

This topic contains a list of questions frequently asked by STORIS users about Inventory Costing. If you click on a question, the answer appears. Please note that more than one solution may exist for a given situation. Read the answers completely to determine which method best suits your company's needs.

Landed freight and landed cost add-on values (also known as "factors") are established as either a percent or a dollar amount and can be set at the vendor and/or product levels.

To establish landed freight and add-on values at the vendor level, use the Shipping tab in the Advanced Vendor Settings.
To establish freight and add-on factors at the product level, use the Cost tab in the Advanced Product Settings.

You should only establish preset freight landed values if you are NOT using the Receive a Purchase Order with a Separate Freight Bill program. That is, container receiving allows you to enter a freight amount during the receiving process for itemized freight allocations.

The system creates cost exceptions when unsure of the proper cost to attach to a piece of merchandise. For example, if you receive a piece into your system at $0, the system attempts to verify that this is the true cost. Or, you may receive a piece at one cost, but then approve it for payment (using the Enter Multiple Vendor Invoices) at a different cost.

Be sure to address your system’s cost exceptions on a daily or weekly basis. You can do this by using the Update a Product Cost process.

STORIS also allows you to resolve exceptions automatically, based on specified criteria. To ensure your system is automatically resolving cost exceptions, review your Costing Control Settings.

Yes, you can restrict specific users and/or user groups from accessing product cost information. If you inactivate (remove the check from) the View and access product cost information field in the user/user group System security settings, the user or group cannot access or view cost information. This includes restriction from cost information during purchase order receiving, as well as viewing cost information on inquiry screens.
