Distribution Status Settings

Use this routine to create and maintain distribution status codes that you can assign to products. The codes assigned to products are then used by sales order, exchange, and transfer entry to determine where merchandise is coming from (stock location) and whether or not it can be reserved at locations other than the selling location.

When you edit an existing status code, only the Short and Long Description fields can be changed. The Inventory Availability field is not available for change; you can create a new status code and delete the old one.

Indicate the unique code to be created or maintained. Up to 10 alpha/numeric characters can be entered to identify this distribution status. Click the Search button to select an existing code from the Read-Only Lookup Window.

Enter or change a short description for this status code. Up to 10 alpha/numeric characters are permitted in this field. If you click the Action button you access the Description Field - Language Translation Entry, where you can enter a multi-lingual description.

Enter or change the long description for this status code. Up to 30 alpha/numeric characters are permitted in this field. If you click the Action button you access the Description Field - Language Translation Entry, where you can enter a multi-lingual description.

Use this field to indicate how inventory fulfillment is to be handled. Your options at this field are:

Only at Selling Location - This setting determines if the stock location on a sales order or the sale portion of an exchange is limited to only the selling store and also whether or not the entry of a transfer between locations is allowed. If you check this box,

Products with this status entered on a sale are required to have matching selling store and stock location.
There must be sufficient quantity on-hand to fulfill the line item before you can save these items on the order.

From Multiple Locations - This setting determines if a product can be sourced from another location when there is insufficient quantity available at the default stock location. This applies to sales orders and the sale portion of exchanges. If you check this box,

And you add a product with this status to a sale, the system checks the default stock location. If there is not sufficient quantity available at the stock location, the system checks the warehouse/store location settings for a hierarchy of locations to check for available merchandise in order to fulfill the sales order or sale portion of the exchange.

Limit Distribution - This setting determines if a product reserves to sales orders and transfers. If you check this box,

Products with this status are restricted from being transferred from a location that is NOT designated as a Store, as defined by Location Type, regardless of available quantity.
Store locations can transfer merchandise to either other stores or warehouses, provided there is sufficient quantity to transfer.
