Day/Month Ending FAQs

This topic contains a list of questions frequently asked by STORIS users about day and month-ending (Generate Daily Reports and Generate Monthly Reports) processes. If you click on a question, the answer appears. Please note that more than one solution may exist for a given situation. Read the answers completely to determine which method best suits your company's needs.

Finalize all transactions for the day and then access the Generate Daily Reports routine in STORIS. Specify the process you want to run in the As-of Date field. STORIS recommends performing a system backup, which can be done by checking the Perform System Backup check box in the Generate Daily Reports screen. You may specify a start time in the Process Start Time field, or leave it blank to begin the process immediately after clicking Run.

If you are using Regional Processing in the STORIS Cloud environment, the Generate Daily Reports and Generate Monthly Reports (end of day and end of month) processes allow the reports to be printed on your local printer.

For Cloud clients not using Regional Processing, reports produced during the Generate Daily Reports and Generate Monthly Reports processes are saved to a folder on the PC from which the processes were run. These reports can be viewed on screen using Adobe® Reader and then, if desired, sent to a printer.

To locate the report files:

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to My Documents\STORIS\Reports. ( The exact path differs depending on the version of Windows® running on your system.
The Reports folder contains sub-folders, each named using the date on which the process was run.
The sub-folders contain the report output files in Adobe® Reader ("pdf") format.
Open the desired "pdf" file to view the report on the screen.
Use the Adobe® Reader File > Print option to print a hard copy of the report.

The number of days to retain information before it is purged is specified in the Days to Hold Spool Jobs field in the General tab of General System Control Settings. When you run the Generate Daily Reports routine, the system checks this setting and purges any print jobs older than the number of days specified.

STORIS suggests creating unique Regional Processing forms that correspond to your assigned warehouse/store locations in order to print reports from the Generate Daily Reports process. Further detail about this process can be found in the Printing Daily Reports Using Regional Processing topic.

For accounting purposes, STORIS can have only two accounting periods "open" at a time. On the twentieth day of the current month, if you have not yet closed the previous month via Generate Monthly Reports, STORIS warns that you are in "overlap condition". When you enter a transaction date, you may see the message "Transaction date cannot be in a future period". This also indicates that you need to close the previous period.

Note that when backdating orders, attempting to complete an order with a date prior to the inventory receiving date generates an overlap error message and you cannot proceed.
