Broker Settings
Access
Use this routine to create and maintain information
on the customs brokerages you use when importing merchandise. The system
references the Broker Settings when entering import purchase orders and
printing import purchase order documents via the Forms Designer.
Brokers navigate goods through customs barriers on behalf of importers
and exporters. Brokers
prepare documents and/or electronic
submissions,
calculate (and often pay)
taxes, duties and excises on behalf of the client, and
facilitate communication between
the importer/exporter and governmental authorities.
Customs brokers can be employed by or affiliated
with freight forwarders,
but can also be independent businesses or employed by shipping lines,
importers, exporters, trade authorities and customs brokerage firms.
Broker IDEnter
the identification code of the broker you want to edit. If you click on
the Search button, a list of brokers appears from which you can choose.
To create a new broker record, enter a code of up to 5 alphanumeric characters.
DescriptionEnter or edit the description
of the broker specified at the Broker ID prompt. You can enter up to 30
alphanumeric characters.
CountryEnter or edit the name of
the country in which the broker resides. The country you enter must exist
in the Country file. If you click on the Search
button, a list containing the contents of the Country file appears, from
which you can make a selection.
You must specify a country before you can enter the remainder of the address
fields. That is, the system formats the address and telephone number fields
on this screen based on the "masks" set up in the Country File
for each country. For example, the Zip Code field in the United States
is analogous to the Postal Code field in Canada, However, because they
have different names and different formats, you use the Country File to
specify the differences so that when you enter a country here in this
routine, the system formats the prompts and fields properly.
Address LineEnter or edit the address
of the broker. You have 3 lines of up to 30 alphanumeric characters each.
The names of the following three fields are derived from the user-defined
settings in the Country file. The prompt names
below derive from the default country United States. However, the prompt
names you see on your STORIS screen may differ depending on the country
specified in the Country field above and the settings for that country
in the Country file.

the broker lives.
Zip CodeEnter

file record for the specified country.
