Wild Carding

Wild cards are symbols, for example the letter "N", used in searches to represent zero, one, or multiple unspecified characters. STORIS uses wild cards in several areas, for example, in General Ledger account numbers or the Masking feature.

Wild Carding the Cost Center in GL Account Numbers

When specifying default accounts, many GL accounts allow you enter a wild card in place of the cost center. In this way, you can track system activity by location. To enter a wild card into a default GL account, use the GL Account Entry Screen, available via the Action button at each GL account field in the General Ledger Assigned Account Settings.

When the wild card is set, the program determines the location associated with the transaction (for example, the sales location or the location where goods were received into inventory), and appends the location cost center code to the General Ledger account, with the separation character (specified at the GL Account Number Separator field on the General tab of General Ledger Control Settings) inserted in between the two.

For example, if you set up your Finance Receivable account as 6010^NN (see below graphic), when posting a sale from cost center location 1000 to General Ledger, the transaction posts to account 6010^1000.
