Tax FAQs

Customers can be set up to be exempt from tax using these methods.

1. • All orders - Use the Tax fields on the General tab of Advanced Customer Settings. You can either enable or disable sales tax or national tax.

   • A specific order - Within the Customer tab of the current order, click the extra Actions button to select Customer Order Information. From this screen, use the Taxes fields to apply sales tax or national tax. Note that this affects only the customer's tax status for the current order only and is not a global change.

   • A portion of an order - Create a new tax code for the reduced tax rate using Sales Tax Settings. To apply the reduced tax rate to an order, access the Order Total Full Display Window to replace the default tax rate with the reduced tax rate.

   • Zero-out tax on an order - Access the order and in either the Customer or Payment tab, click the extra Actions button to select Order Total Full Display. From this screen, click the appropriate tab for the type of order and use the National Code and/or State Code's Zero Tax Amount fields to remove tax from an order.

In order to edit the taxable status for a customer via Advanced Customer Settings or to modify the taxable status for a specific order through Customer Order Information, Order Total Full Display Window and Product Full Display Screen, you must have permission via the Change Taxable Settings field in your Create a User/User Group -Sales Security.

To edit tax amounts on open sales orders, you must have permission via the "Edit the calculated sales tax amount on open transactions" setting in your user/user group sales security settings.

To suspend sales tax for, for example, a tax holiday, use Sales Tax Settings to change the Tax Rate field to zero for the jurisdiction in which the tax suspension is to occur. Also, un-check the box at the Validate Tax Rate field.

To have the system check and recalculate the sales tax on open sales orders each time you access a sales order in Sales Order Entry, check the box at the Validate Tax Rate field in Sales Tax Settings. You must do this for each jurisdiction that requires you to charge the current tax rate at the time of delivery.
