Merchandising and Distribution > Inventory > Inventory Management > Advanced Warehouse Management > Plan Directed Putaway Assignments
Use this routine with the directed putaway process to automatically designate the putaway locations for either manual putaway processing or for AWM RF Putaway processing. In Step 1, you specify putaway merchandise, indicating the current storage locations and putaway quantities. You then use the Assign Putaway button on this tab to create the putaway plan. In Step 2, you review the system-assigned destination locations and quantities. You can manually assign storage locations, and if you have the necessary user security, you can update system-assigned locations and quantities.
Indicate the location for which you are planning putaway assignments. Your login location defaults in this field, provided it is location tracked. If not, the first locator tracked location in your list of accessible locations defaults here. You can click the Arrow button and select a different locator tracked location.
To create a plan, enter today's date or a future date. To access an existing plan, enter the date of the plan. A date prior to today can only be entered if there is an existing plan for that date and location. Following entry of a date, press the Tab key to proceed.
Use this mandatory field to specify one or more source storage locations for this putaway. If you previously assigned putaway destinations for the current warehouse location, this field automatically fills in with the storage locations last entered, but you can edit this field.
This is the storage location or locations where the merchandise to be put away is currently located. If you click the Action button at this field, you access the Multiple Storage Location Selection Window. The storage location(s) you indicate here cannot be set up as Putaway Destination locations in the Tracked Storage Location Settings.
Once the storage location(s) are indicated, the grid displays products currently in those locations.
To add products from open purchase orders to the assignment list, indicate one or more merchandise purchase orders to be received at this warehouse location. Enter a single purchase order number, or click the Action button to access the Multiple Purchase Order Selection Window. After you specify one or more purchase order(s), products on the orders that are to be received at the indicated location are added to the grid.
To remove a purchase order once it has been added to the grid, remove the purchase order number from the Purchase Order(s) field. If the Assign Putaway Destinations grid (STEP 2) has been updated with products from the purchase order you are deleting, you must also click the Assign Putaway button and answer No to the prompt to recreate the STEP 2 grid listing without those products.
To add products from barcode receiving batches, indicate one or more receiving batch numbers. Enter a batch number or click the Action button to access the Multiple Selection Lookup Window, where multiple barcode receiving batches can be selected. If purchase orders are associated with the batches you indicate here, they are added to the list.
To add products that are on open transfers to the indicated location, indicate one or more merchandise transfers. You can enter the transfer order number or click the Action button to access the Multiple Order Selection Window, where you can select multiple transfer orders.
To add products that are on transfer manifests, indicate one or more transfer manifest lists. Click the Action button to access the Select Multiple Transfer Manifests screen, where you can enter manifest criteria, and list and select multiple transfer manifests.
To include products on incoming transfers that are linked to other transfers, check this box. If you leave the box blank these products are not included in the putaway process.
To include products on incoming transfers that are linked to customer pickups or deliveries, check this box. If you leave the box blank these products are not included in the putaway process.
The grid displays the following information.
Storage Location - The source storage locations where the merchandise is currently located displays.
Purchase Order - If products to be received on purchase orders are included, the purchase order number displays.
Transfer - If products to be received on incoming transfers are included, the transfer order displays.
Quantity - For products currently in the storage location, the total quantity in that location displays. For products to be received via purchase order or transfer, the quantity to be received displays.
Product Number - The product code for merchandise to be put away displays.
When you select putaway products using the fields on the left side of the Step 1 tab - storage location, purchase order(s), transfer(s), etc. - the grid is updated with those products. If you remove a selection criterion that was previously entered - a specific purchase order, for example - the products are removed from the grid accordingly.
Use the Refresh button to update the grid with current information. If putaway tasks are currently in progress, refreshing the grid display allows you to view an updated listing of products needing to be put away.
Use the Assign Putaway button to create/update a putaway plan. The process populates the grid on the Step 2 tab with merchandise that needs to be put away, along with the storage locations determined to be the putaway locations for this merchandise, and putaway quantities. When you click this button after specifying your selections in Step 1, the system:
Saves the selection criteria,
Determines the placement of the merchandise based on your selections,
Reserves the space in the storage locations, and
Activates the Step 2 tab.
This tab is active only when an active putaway plan exists for the date you specified or following the creation of a new plan via the Assign Putaway button. Use this tab to view and override the system assigned destination locations and quantities.
The grid lists products to be put in destination storage locations. They are listed by product code, by storage location. When you access a previously created plan, products that have been put away since the list was created are not included in the grid. The grid displays the following information.
Product Number - The product code that requires "putaway" displays in this column.
ASSIGNED Quantity - The quantity of product to be put away in the assigned storage location displays.
ASSIGNED Storage Location - The destination storage location assigned by the system displays. If the column is blank for a product, no valid putaway location could be found for that item. This is either because there is no available space in a location or because required storage dimensions were not indicated for the product.
% of Capacity Used - The percentage displayed here is calculated by adding the system calculated space currently in the storage location and the space to be consumed by products assigned to that storage location
Storage Max Capacity % - The assigned storage location’s maximum capacity %, as established via Tracked Storage Location Settings, displays in this column. If a maximum was not set for the storage location, the system uses 100% of capacity.
Available Capacity Weight - If the maximum weight capacity for the storage location has been established via Tracked Storage Location Settings, this column displays the remaining weight available for the location.
UPDATED Storage Location - To assign a destination storage location, or override the assigned location, click in this column of the grid and enter the storage location code. Any valid storage location other than the item's current location can be entered. If you enter a storage location that is not a designated "putaway" location, a warning message displays and provides the option to continue. In order to change a system-assigned storage location, you must have permission via the Change Directed Putaway Storage Location setting in your user settings.
UPDATED Quantity - To update the putaway quantity, enter a quantity less than the line’s quantity. If the product is set up with a case quantity and the entered quantity represents a partial case, a warning is issued and you have the option to continue.
Update
- The
button appears in this column. Following
your entry of updated storage location(s) and/or updated quantities,
click this button to update the grid. When you click the Update
button:
User/User Group security is checked to verify that you have the necessary permission, via the Change Directed Putaway Storage Location setting, to override the assigned storage location. If you do not have access, the security override window appears, prompting for the initials and password of a user with the necessary permission to proceed.
A status bar is displayed while the process updates all effected locations and products for both the ASSIGNED Storage Location and UPDATED Storage Location grid columns.
The line currently being updated is re-displayed and recalculated if there is quantity left to process, or is removed if there is no remaining quantity.
Re-assigning a product to an existing storage location that references the same product causes the system to recalculate the line's quantity and percentages.
Re-assigning a product to a storage location that does not reference the product causes the process to create a new line.
All lines that reference the effected locations are updated for a change in the percentage of capacity.
If you manually assigned a product to a storage location and that assignment causes the maximum capacity or maximum weight to be exceeded, a warning message is displayed but you have the option to proceed.
Click the Actions button to access the following options.
Putaway Assignment Report - Select this option to print an assignment sheet that includes information shown in the grid, along with blank columns for user assigned locations and exceptions comments.
Output Options - Select this option to change the output settings for the report.
