iCall Voice Processing Abbreviations Settings

iCall uses RealSpeak® for its text-to-speech translation engine.  RealSpeak may not translate some abbreviations to your liking.  Use this routine to specify your preferred translations for a user-defined list of abbreviations.  For example, for Ft. Collins, RealSpeak may translate this as Feet Collins, but you can use this routine to instruct iCall to translate this abbreviation as Fort (Collins).

For each abbreviation on your list, you can specify unique translations for when the abbreviation appears in a name, address, or city name field.  In this way, you can account for situations where you must translate an abbreviation differently depending on where the abbreviation might occur.  

 iCall recognizes only abbreviation records consisting of upper-case letters.  Assume you create a record called "FT".  iCall uses it whenever it encounters the abbreviation "ft", regardless of case.  However, if you create a record called "Ft" or "FT.", iCall ignores it.

If iCall encounters the abbreviation "Ft.", it converts it to upper-case letters and removes the punctuation, then searches this file for a record that matches the converted string (that is, "FT").

iCall applies the translations you specify here only when encountering the letters as an abbreviation, but not when part of a word. For example, if you have a record called "FT", and iCall encounters the word "sift", it does not apply a translation.
