Upload/Download Batch Bar Code Scanner

Use this process to send the data collected in batches, created either through Warehouse Receipts, Inventory Cycle Count, or Manifest Verification, to the scanners. The data is assigned to a user and then sent to what is known in STORIS as the "Bar Code Buffer." When using the Send option, the system verifies the user's initials and then clears the buffer and loads the scanner. This process is also used to receive or retrieve data from the scanners in order to update STORIS with the new data.

Both processes must be completed using the scanner and the cradle. Setup must be completed on the scanner and on the STORIS system in order for the communications to function.

If using a batch bar code device that is connected to a PC via a COMM port connection, use this process. This process is not used if using a batch bar code device that communicates with STORIS via a web service.

Important! If Bar Code is active at a location, STORIS does not recommend building and using only one storage location to track all inventory at that store/warehouse. Each storage location should contain no more than 1000 pieces. In addition, it is recommended that when scanning, you limit the number of pieces per scan and upload in order to guard against possible data loss in the event of communication errors.

Process TypeThis field is used to indicate the type of communication process being performed. The options for this field are: None (no communication), Send Batch to Workstation (download or send batch data from STORIS to the scanner), and Receive Batch from Workstation (upload or receive scanned data from the scanner). Once the Process Type has been indicated, click the Run button at the bottom of the screen to begin the communication process.
