Route Capacity Control Settings

Use this routine to specify global delivery-capacity cutoff points for selected days of the week. You can set up any combination of the following four cutoff points:

For example, you can specify a maximum of five stops for Monday through Friday, a maximum of seven stops for Saturday, and no stops for Sunday.

If you enter an order whose quantities exceed a route's capacity, a warning message appears and you cannot proceed unless you have access via the Override capacities when scheduling routes that are full field on the Logistics tab of the Extended Security settings.

The values you enter here default into the Route Capacity Settings whenever you create a new route code, but you can use that routine to specify cutoff points for individual routes. Cutoff points for individual routes override any global cutoff points you specify here.

Specify the route type. You have the following options:

(DL) Delivery route
(CS) Customer Service route
(TR) Transfer route

Sun - Sat

The following entry fields are available on each of the Sun - Sat tabs. These fields are not mandatory.

Enter the maximum number of stops you want to allow for this day of the week. To prevent deliveries on this day of the week, enter zero (0). If you leave this field blank for a specific day of the week, the system does not check or monitor that day.

For example:

To allow up to 25 stops on Saturday before the system warns that you have reached the maximum stop capacity, enter 25 in this field under the Saturday tab.
If you do not allow deliveries on Sunday, enter 0 in this field under the Sunday tab.
If you have no limits on your delivery schedule for Monday, leave the field blank under the Monday tab.

If you selected Delivery at the Route Type Field, enter the maximum number of units you want to deliver for this day of the week. To allow no deliveries on this day of the week, enter zero (0). To not check or monitor this day of the week, leave this field blank.

If you selected Customer Service at the Route Type Field, enter the maximum number of service hours you want to permit for this day of the week. For no service hours, enter zero (0). For unlimited hours, leave the field blank.

For this day of the week, enter the maximum capacity units your trucks can deliver. You can specify the precise cubic feet of the product or assign units to merchandise for the calculation of truck capacity. For example, a three-cushion sofa might equal 3 units; a two-cushion sofa might equal 2 units.

To prevent deliveries on this day of the week, enter zero (0) in the corresponding field. To not check or monitor this day of the week, leave this field blank.

The Product record contains a Volume field in which you enter the measurement used in calculating the delivery volume. To properly calculate maximum capacity units, you must enter a value in this field for the delivery scheduling program.

Settings

To issue a warning message when a user attempts to file a document that causes a capacity to be exceeded for any of the following, check the box. Otherwise, leave the box blank.

Use this field to consolidate delivery orders with similar delivery information into a single stop. If you check the box at this field, then when scheduling orders for delivery and two or more of the orders have the following information in common, the system consolidates the orders into a single delivery stop:

delivery route
delivery date
customer code
delivery address (addresses must match exactly)

If you leave the box blank, the system does not consolidate delivery stops in this way. Note that when scheduling orders, if you check the Past Dates field in the Logistical Scheduling routine, the program does not consolidate stops.
