Create/Maintain a Daily Discount Schedule

Use this routine to create and maintain a daily discount schedule in which you choose and prioritize the discounts that are offered for a specific date.

This information is used by the Auto-Apply process to apply discounts consistently according to this schedule. The Auto-Apply process is available from Enter a Sales Order and Enter a Quick Sale. When the Auto-Apply process is running, each Sales Discount in the schedule is evaluated and if it qualifies for the sales order it is applied to all eligible lines. When a discount is not eligible, the process uses a method to determine the optimal lines so that the discount can be applied in a manner that is most beneficial to the customer.

When you create/maintain an order in Enter a Sales Order and no daily discount schedule exists for the current date, the Auto-Apply Actions options (Start Automated Line Discounting, etc.) cannot be used.

If you modify an order while the Auto-Apply process is running, the process refreshes the discounts. This means that the existing discounts are discarded and then reapplied using the daily discount schedule. One exception to this rule is when a discount designated as a Manager Only discount is added or removed. These special discounts can be given in addition to the discounts in the daily discount schedule and can be added or removed without causing the Auto-Apply process to refresh all discounts.

If you accessed this screen via the View Discount Schedule Applied to this Order Actions option in order entry, the screen displays in read-only mode. You cannot make any changes to it from within order entry. If no schedule exists for today, and you select the View option, you receive a message stating that there is no schedule for that day.

Enter the date of the daily discount schedule that you want to create or maintain. You can click the Calendar Icon to select a date from the calendar. Next, click the tab key to populate the grid.

If you enter a date prior to the current date the information displayed is read-only and no modifications can be made.
If a schedule for the date entered does not exist, all discounts that qualify for the date are automatically populated into the grid, where you can prioritize them. Initially, all the lines are checked.
If you enter the date of an existing schedule, all existing discounts are loaded.

Discount Qualification Rules

These arrow buttons are located above the grid. The order in which items are listed in the grid determines their precedence. To change the position of a line, select the line in the grid and then click the Down Arrow button to move it down one line, or the Up Arrow button to move it up one line.

The grid displays the following information for each discount listed.

Check Box - Use the check box in the header row to select or deselect all lines in the grid. If you check an individual box that appears on the line in the grid, you indicate that the discount on that line should be applied (if the order meets the requirements) when the Auto-Apply process is run. If you leave a box blank, the Auto-Apply process ignores the discount.
Discount - The discount code is displayed.
Description - The description of the discount is displayed.
% - If the discount type is Percent, the percentage of the discount is displayed.
$ - If the discount type is Amount, the dollar amount of the discount is displayed.
Group - You can use this entry field to establish Discount Groups. Enter the Group ID (up to 6 alphanumeric characters) in this column for each discount belonging to that group. Multiple discount groups can be established. Once a discount with a Group ID has been applied to any line of the order, all other discounts in the same group are disqualified for that order. The discounts in a group do not need to be sequentially listed in the table. For example, you can move the discount on line 4 to line 1 and still retain the group.
Minimum $ - If the discount requires that the order line or subtotal meet a minimum eligible amount, the minimum dollar amount is displayed.
Minimum Quantity - If the discount requires that the order line or subtotal meet a minimum eligible quantity, the quantity is displayed.

This grid does not allow the information to be sorted or filtered by columns.

If a schedule is changed during the active day, it only affects orders that are created from that point forward. If you want to apply the new schedule to an order that was discounted prior to the change you need to access the orders and refresh the discounts by selecting Start Automated Line Discounting from the Actions button in order entry.

If a discount is changed in Sales Discount Settings, the existing discount schedule needs to be updated with these changes.
